A quick Update about Kakuma

As you can imagine we have been busy tying everything up from this year’s fantastic FiLiA event. We just wanted to update you with what you have been able to support (already) thanks to your wonderful donations to the women of Kakuma. We can’t say thank you enough for your generosity, you raised £2,680!!! - which will make such a huge difference to the women’s lives. We have already sent funds to repair baby Patricia’s grave (water was getting in) and materials to build a new school for the children of Block 13, as you can see work has started already. We have also sent funds for emergency first aid and medical supplies.

We are talking with the women about their other needs. They lost most of their possessions in the last arson attack so some basics like a mattress and underwear & clothes are top of their lists. We are also looking at equipment for the school once it’s built and a couple of extra phones so that is easier for them to communicate.

Also importantly, we have had support from the brilliant Joanna Cherry MP who wrote about Kakuma in her column and will be raising it with the Home office. We have had a woman volunteer to spend some time dedicated to this campaign and offers from across Europe for support and joint campaigning and activism

We spoke with the women again on Saturday and they were so moved by your support, they wanted to say…..

From Shifra - “I only want to say one thing to the women who have stood in solidarity with us, a very big thank you for their generosity. We thank them for always loving us. Thank you for showing humanity to us.”

From Reginah – “Thanks to everyone to all women who have [stood] with is in these troubles, thanks again for the support. Thanks goes to all of you”.

From Juliet – “We just appreciate all the love, solidarity, and support they are giving us. They have no idea about what it means to us and our children.    we pray that they all live to witness the fruits of their labor towards Kakuma Block 13 women! We shall always love you all.”
