12th March 2020 - #SilencedByJustice demonstration / Mujer 2020

#SILENCEDBYJUSTICE

FiLiA was pleased to join a variety of specialist services outside Westminster Magistrates Court today to protest at how women are #SilencedByJustice. The event organised by Standing Together and Women and Girls Network included speeches from EVAW, Rights of Women, Centre for Women’s Justice and we left the final words to Natalie and those survivors who contact #TheCourtSaid.

We chose Westminster as that’s where Standing Together hold the Specialist Domestic Abuse Court, the best chance of accessing Justice through the criminal system. However this is not available across the country and doesn’t support women using the civil or family justice system. Its not good enough and women deserve better.

Many women are #SilencedByJustice sometimes permanently, last year 111 women lost lives to male violence and so we covered our mouth with black scarves and stood in silence for 111 seconds in sisterhood and solidarity with those women. At the end of the silence we filled the air with noise in their memory. Power to the Women!!

If you are free on Tuesday 17th March 9am you can join EVAW and Centre for Women’s Justice as they protest outside the Royal Courts of Justice at the CPS’s decriminalisation of rape.
